Products produced by COPES are now available from Resilient Futures Network.
Capping over two decades of successful experience in prevention, COPES recently published training manuals based on its award winning and scientifically validated program for youth and their parents titled The Creating Lasting Family Connections Program. This program, authored by Ted N. Strader, Tim Noe, and Warrenetta Crawford Mann, includes three training modules for youths and three training modules for parents.
The Creating Lasting Family Connections Program was designed
to be presented sequentially and concurrently in separate trainings for youths
and their parents. Each module, however, also works effectively as a stand-alone
training. While the content and emphasis of each module vary, the following
themes are repeated for the sake of emphasis: the importance of self-worth
and taking control of one's life; the importance of good communications in
building healthy relationships (e.g., listening, empathy, negotiation, and
cooperation); and the importance of personal responsibility (e.g. choice,
cause and effect, limits, and consequences).
Institutions and organizations interested in promoting healthy youth and healthy
families, in reducing inappropriate, violent, uncontrolled, unhealthy behaviors
and in limiting the negative impact of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs while
enhancing the skills of independence for youth and families will be well served
by adopting The Creating Lasting Family Connections Program curricula. The
program Manuals are user friendly. One need not have a formal background in
alcohol and drug prevention, psychology, counseling, or social work to put
them into effective use. All Manuals offer clear, step-by-step instruction
in the presentation of material to assure successful outcomes. By attending
the optional CLFC training, an individual can gain knowledge, awareness and
confidence in his/her skills as a facilitator for any of the training modules.
